[Cafe Hopping in Singapore] Bingsu- O'ma Spoon Korean Dessert Cafe
The Bingsu wave has hit Singapore and in case you are clueless as to what Bingsu means, it's just the Korean -English translation of 빙수 which means shaved ice with different toppings and fillings. Of course the origin goes back to 팥빙수 patbingsoo which means red bean with ice but there has since been so many versions and possibilities of such combinations it's useless to keep track. A chain of Bingsu cafes ( e.g: Nunsongyee) has opened up in Singapore and well O'ma Spoon is the first Bingsu chain I have been to currently. Can't wait to try the other brands.
Located in a tiny corner facing the escalator and heading to the food court, it's not hard to miss O'ma with their warm purple lighting.
Besides Bingsu, they also sell a range of other sweets like toasts, cakes
What's so special about Korea Bingsu from the typical version of shaved ice aka Ice Kachang is because these Bingsu are not ice, but rather, as quoted they are 'finely shaved fluffy MILK Flakes'. How awesome is that! I must said it was love at first bite as the smooth fine milk flakes melt in my mouth.
We had our order of Choco Brownie $18.80, for 2 pax.
Consisting of brownie, ice cream, oreo, banana, almond and milk snow. It was a dancing joy of ice cream, milk melts and the crunchy brownies, Oreo and banana softness. For 2 pax, this portion can be easily shared between 3 to 4 instead. Was impressed with this Bingsu and super happy after this sweet. Milk can be added in for additional sweetness accordingly.
They are seriously authentic and we sighted Korean staff around. Why not have them as a dessert before or after a full meal at the Marina Square food court? Now, I just have to try the others for a comparison. The cafe is spacious and relatively empty even on a weekend. Perfect place to enjoy a sweet cooling dessert and just chill.
