WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR AT SINGAPORE NIGHT FESTIVAL 2013

by - Saturday, September 21, 2013

Hello you~~! I am back!!! Super busy nowadays and hence my lack of posts here... (*_*)

Nevertheless here I am.... ^^

Sharing here some of the happenings at this year's Singapore Night Festival.

Basically I still prefer last year's night festival. there were so many splendid out of the box, breathtaking performances last year. This year competitively seems to pale in comparison. But... I am not complaining. Am ever so thankful that Singapore has developed and is improving on the art scenes progressively. Much applause to the committee behind this festival. Definitely not an easy tasks putting all the acts and exhibits together... Good job and cheers to the ever blooming art scene in Singapore!!

Follow me to see some highlights on the 2nd weekend of the festival.

So Sedap!
Located along Stamford Road, stalls selling your childhood snacks.

Look at the crowd gathering at Armenian Street~~

Performances right in front of the Substation

The Travelling C.O.W along Armenian Street, selling all kinds of food like pizzas, fries, beer etc.

Heading on into the Peranakan Museum Singapore, visitors were greeted by glow-in-the-dark graffiti. Anyone can express their creativity on the wall!

Luminous Depths, the art installation by Lee Mingwei
This creative art piece lets you smash the frustrations you have! Splendidly clever~~

Head over to level 3 and throw down any pottery you have collected from level 1

Loving this exciting installation.

Someone random throwing a dish~~

My TURN!
I chose a small one coz I can't bear to smash those big pieces of art.... what a waste... of course everything gets smashed eventually by everyone.

Remnants of the crushed pieces on the ground. See them?
Different shapes and sizes of the ceramics created different smashing sounds and I believed the artist wanted to used the sounds to convey his reflection messages to the participants.

Interactive light exhibition, Everyday Aspirations. I love this art installation the most but unfortunately, 114 pieces of these wordings of aspirations were stolen after the first weekend of the festival.
Pity we can't see those missing ones.

There were supposed to be 365 of aspirational words on wooden panels, which participants can rearrange at will according to whichever aspirations they prefer. People must have been so 'inspired' by the panels they can't resist stealing. Isn't that abit too extreme?

Can you see what I see on the wall?
Shadows are susposed to be cast on the wall for participants to play with them in anywhere they want.

Really creative and interactive, kudos to Karen Mitchell Chia, the artist behind this piece. I hope to see more of such interactive artworks from her in the future~~

JC Sum and Magic Babe Ning's public perforance with fire....

Everlast by Soo Koon Ang, at National Museum.
Random by here's what was written, just in case you can't figure out the wordings formed by these silvery foil balloons
" We are 4 fishes together that take an aquarium.
We are angels and golds
We are light with spectrum
we are dazzling
Bloated with laughter we overturned buoyant like balloons
lighter still
sparkling like discoballs
still dazzling"
It addresses life and death and the exhilarating energy between 2 persons.

The Magic Melody by Tigrelabs at National Museum Singapore.

Moongrazing, by OICSingapore graced the walls of the National Museum.

Cute? brings you to the outer space, beyond imagination.

chefs on stilts... creative~!

The Magic Melody by Tigrelabs lights up prettily.

Short films from local filmmakers, including Royston Tan, Anthony Chen, Boo Junfeng will be shown at the SAM. Pity didn't manage to catch any full film, only snippets of them....
