Korean Fried Chicken and Soju at Chicken Up 치맥 ( Tanjong Pagar)

by - Sunday, October 26, 2014

When the night is dark, what do you crave for? How about some KFC? I meant the Korean Fried Chicken that's all the craze now in Singapore, in particular with the waves of invasion of authentic korean eateries and restaurants nowadays, it's not hard to satisfy for KFC cravings anywhere?
How about heading to Tanjong Pagar's little 'Korean Enclave'?

I was glad of the opportunity to have a go at Chicken Up! The crowd has always been strong whenever I passed by and we were deterred by the possibility of long waiting time. Thankful for this time round.

When you are at a Korean chicken place, you do know the rules of 'Chic-Mek'  맥 which refers to the combination of fried chicken and mekju (beer) right?  When with friends or at a social gathering, Koreans loved their chicken to go with alcohol.

Thus the first servings we had were, not mekju, but fruits punch soju!
Just the 2 of us but thanks to Chicken Up's generosity, we had the chance to really drink up ( well almost) all the 3 soju cocktail creations. Seriously, they were all so awesome! I hardly drink nowadays but the sweetness of the fruits and the soju is perfecto

First up is the Watermelon Soju. $38.
Isn't this so photogenic? I am sure this will be a talking point in all the photos you will be snapping in Chicken Up whenever you order this massive drink. Fits up to 4 pax, this bestseller serves a generous portion with fresh watermelon flesh and pup mixed with, YES, 1 whole bottle of Soju.

The watermelons are prepared fresh daily. On first sip, there's such a cooling, refreshing sense to the cocktail, you hardly feel any strong, hard alcoholic effect at all.  BEST ♥♥.

Next up, another pretty display is the Pineapple Soju. $30.
This zesty and sweet drink also come packed with pineapple pup and prepared fresh daily. Even Elgena whom don't usually like pineapples because of their tartness, loves this concoction!
For me I adore the zesty sweetness which basically drowns out the otherwise hard and tasteless soju.

For the romantic in us, try their Rose Soju. $35.
Mixed with rose essence and soju of course, this is a special concoction made by the chefs at Chicken Up and exclusive. Seriously I love this the best. Tinted with subtle rose fragrance, this cocktail is light on the taste bud and with a lingering rose sweetness.

"Whenever it is, love as if it's your first love"
Even the serving cup is so pretty!

Cheers to many soju ahead!
I brought Elgena along with me this time and we had a good time pigging eating :)

Okay time for appetisers or rather small side dishes you can order to go with the drinks should you want want a light meal. Here's the Corn Cheese. Baked with cheese till crusty on top, this is a popping delight to tuck into!

Another best seller is their Truffle Fries- $12. Aromatic and thick potato fries. Yums.
Chicken Up has revamped and expanded their menu back in July this year. From previously only serving chickens, they have now included many new items such as sides, rice, noodles and soup. There is something for everyone basically.

Now for the highlight. Here's the much awaited KFC!
All of Chicken Up's chicken parts are marinated for 12 hours before frying and as with all KFC, deep fried twice to ensure crispiness. KFC has such different texture- lighter yet crispy and I guess that's why everyone is loving it.

First up- Spicy Up. $18
Here's the mild spicy fried chicken in plain old batter that's crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. Simple without any sauce on the coating but so good on its own! My favourite♥

Next comes Yangnyum Chicken Wings. 4 pcs $12.
This version has the chicken wings covered with sweet sauce and sprinkled with sesame. Perfect for kids or non-spicy eaters. Personally it's a bit sweet for me, but still the outside was crispy and the chicken warm.

Finally we tried the Soya Chicken Wings 4pcs-$12.
Another hot favourite, these are  fuss-free chicken wings marinated with fragrant soya and deliciously deep-fried to crisp.

That's not all. We have more. Introducing other chicken varieties you would love. What?
Yes. It's the famous Andong Chicken Stew
Cooked in soy based, this bowl comes served with much potatoes, rice cakes and glass noodles. With mild spicy which adds on to the overall tastiness, worth a try.

So much chicken but only 2 of us. No food was wasted as we packed those we can't finish.
Thanks to the Audrey and the rest of the friendly crew for having us.

There are 2 dinning areas to Chicken Up and they are almost always filled.

The other side.

Even the outdoors are filled.
Turnover is pretty fast so I guess waiting time shouldn't be too long, otherwise just call for reservations.

There's a contest going on now for all you Chicken Up lovers. See below for details ||
