The SummerHouse- Wildseed Cafe and Bar

Unique Chill.

Right in the ulu ( Singapore slang for deserted) eastern part of Singapore, is the far-flung Seletar Aerospace Park, better known to be occupied by the aerospace and aeronautical companies. Unless you are working at the aeropark, there really seem to be no reason why you and I would want to head all the way to the aerospace park.

Well, until the emergence of something 'instagrammable' that is. Since the redevelopment of the area, a foodie enclave known as The Oval was established, setting its sights on attracting patrons from all over the island and featuring new F&B experiences. These establishments are housed in some 32 black and white colonial bungalows, making it outstanding and more of a reason to check out the new experiences and instagrammable venue.

Hi Summer

From the main road, we were greeted by The SummerHouse — a sprawling spacious bungalow that houses Wildseed café and bar on level one, a restaurant on level two and even a florist named Poppy.

Outdoor Cool

The food ordered at Wildseed Café was cooked over at the Kitchen Window-turned-bar come nighttime outdoors. Located within the same compound area. We had a comfortably huge table to ourselves at the bar area.

Interior air-conditioned seating are limited even on a weekday brunch. There were much more outdoor seating available but still fairly taken up. Yes, it can get hot and steamy ( you steaming with sweat from the sweltering heat I mean).

Greens And All

Though the weather may put you off, I would still suggest outdoor seating anytime. Great view, people-watching, natural air, big cooling spinning fans that cools you down as you settle in. What’s there not to enjoy? The place is great for catch-up and coffee.

We Eat, Food

The selection at Wildseed are not the most comprehensive. Said to have been inspired by nature, the ingredients were sourced directly from local farms and partners as much as possible without going third-party. We love the cakes and breads which were made fresh daily.
Coffee beans were sourced from Nomad the Gallants and the fresh brews were great stimulators for the brain.
Ginger Flower Banana Loaf $7.5
Citronella Passionfruit Cheesecake $7.50
Berry-Gizers Smoothie $7

We really enjoyed our quaint time spent at Wildseed and subsequently walking around the estates exploring others like Wheeler’s Estate once you venture around and spot the camper van.

As it is nearby the Seletar Aerospace, you will see some office patrons around, despite the fact that it is way out of the way. If you are running out of places to head to in the crowded town areas, head over to this serene place at the far eastern side of Singapore. From what we saw, I won’t be surprised of possible future development as settlement comes in. But for now, it is really a quaint area to explore.
. We were perspiring from the exploration and walking by mid-afternoon. Perhaps evening or night time will be better when the temperature cools.

How to Get There

From Punggol MRT, board Bus 117 from the Punggol Bus interchange. Alight at’ Seletar Aerospace Drive’, cross the road and the white colonial buildings will mark The Oval enclave.

The bus journey was pretty fast- about 20 minutes during off-peak hours and once we alighted, we simply have to cross over. There is apparently a Lunch Hour Shuttle Bus service for people working in Seletar Aerospace Park. (Below pic).

Have a Great Day Out!

  1. The space is instagramable and looks more like a resort. However, the food could do better appearance wise, in my opinion.
