HERMÈS LEATHER FOREVER ( ARTSCIENCE MUSEUM, MARINA BAY SANDS SINGAPORE)

by - Wednesday, December 30, 2015

The other big house brand to showcase their exhibit in Singapore recently was the HERMES LEATHER FOREVER held in ArtScience Museum between 25 Oct to 13 Dec 2015.

Hermès and leather. This exhibit is a leather lovers' heaven.
We have learnt about leather and all the works - from selection, cutting, sewing and polishing. In Hermès  leather is not just material, but speaks volumes to its artisans and craftsmen. Fascinated by  the craft and precision that goes into every Hermès bag and creation.
Seeing is believing.
Here are the highlights of the exhibit:

Every start begins at the Tannery.

To maximize the use of leather, placement of the pieces and prceision cut matters.

sac à dépêches bag
Created in 1928 for men to carry documents, with 12 pouches!

It all started with the horse and is the inspiration so many Hermès  objects.

Haut à courroies Bag
The oldest bag and closest to Hermès' saddler origins of the very large family of bags and luggage created by the brand. Its high trapezoid shape was created to allow rider, jockey to transport saddle, boots, riding hats etc.

Travel round the world with Hermès. Why not?

Lindy Bag
A smart design when the handle is attached to the smaller side. The bag folds on in itself, in gracious curves.

Plume Bag
One of Hermès  first bags in soft unlined leather. It's simple and smooth on the outside.

Toolbox Bag
A practical bag full of folds and secret pockets- big, simple and supple. it's a vanity case, a doctor's case and a treasure case all rolled in one.

 Variations of Kelly and Birkin
Two icons, legendary. In every size, materials and colors, they are each an individual masterpiece,.

Kelly Bag
Created in 1930s, it was the first bodyguard of future Princess Caoline Monaco when her mother Grace Kelly help it to shield the child who was to be born in a few months' time from paparazzi.

Hermès created five unique bags for Singapore in commemorating our 50 years of independence. #SG50.
Inspired by Kellydoll, a bag conceived by Jean-Louise Dumas, then head of Hermès.
A whimsical, miniature, Kelly-shaped smiley was born.

Lighthearted and set in a garden-enchanted merry-go-ground concept with child-like song played through the hall- a perfect marriage of fun and the whimsical outlooks of the Kelly bags.
It was, in my opinion, the prettiest and sweetest display I have seen.

Really privilege that this exhibit came to Singapore.
Who wouldn't love Hermès ?
Hope you enjoyed this short leathery journey~
