Tribute to Singapore Founding Father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Thank You.
This came late, but I still want to dedicate my heartfelt thanks to Singapore's founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who passed away on 23rd March 2015. I am no great author and I am not going to reiterate about all the wonderful things Mr Lee has done for Singapore, I am sure you can Google and read up everything you would like to know about Mr Lee from websites like The Straits Times and Channel NewsAsia.
Touched by Mr lee's love and dedication for Mrs Lee and how their steadfast love lasted them throughout their lives. Reading any articles about the 2 lovebirds would definitely triggered tears to my eyes. Mrs Lee was his strength and pillar of support nobody could replace.
In particular, I would like to highlight the 2 eulogies presented by Mr Lee Hsien Loong and Dr Lee Wei Ling at the Cremation Service of the Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Beautifully written, they struck a cord with me and brought fresh tears as I was reading them through the papers the day after Mr Lee's cremation on Sunday, 29 March 2015.
I have extracted parts of the eulogies from the release by the Prime Minister Office.
Please read them if you have not.
Excerpt from Mr Lee Hsien Loong's euology:
"He continued to teach us lessons in life even into his later years. We learnt from watching him grow old with Mama. She meant the world to him, as he to her. They delighted in each other’s company.
When we are young, we think our parents will always be there. After we grow up, as we watch them age and grow frail, we know rationally that one day we will have to say farewell, yet emotionally we find it hard to imagine it happening. Then one day our parents are really gone, and so we are left with a sense of loss and pain. That is the human condition.
But I will just share one quote: “Life is better short, healthy and full than long, unhealthy and dismal. We all have to die. I hope mine will be painless. As de Gaulle said: ‘Never fear, even de Gaulle must die’, and he did.” "

Excerpt from Dr Lee Wei Ling's euology:
"The influence parents have on children depends on many things. To a certain degree, it depends upon the temperament of the parent and the child.
What is the most important lesson I have learnt from Papa? It is never to push around anyone simply because he or she is weaker than me or in a socially inferior position. And never to let anyone bully someone else if I am in a position to stop such bullying.
I noticed that the maid, in setting the dining table, had moved away Papa's chair and placed it against the wall. It was a poignant reminder that this farewell is for ever. I have been controlling my feelings for this past week, but looking at this unexpected scene, I nearly broke down. But I can't break down, I am a Hakka woman."

Edited 12/4/15: It's a pity we only got to know you better, slowly and surely after your death. But with every new fact and thoughts, came utmost respect. Respect that you wish to have your Oxley home demolished after your death. Though saddened.
