[Food Review] Coffeshop Western-style at Bukit Merah
Craving for some western cuisine? Look no further than your local
coffeeshop/ kopitiam in the heartlands. Recently I discovered Blk 119 Jalan Bukit Merah
Lane 1's coffeeshop, with stalls selling only western cuisine delights.
Revamped and re-energised, this place has now gathered some new tenants to
bring in more varieties and offers an alternative from the nearby famous
Alexandra Food Centre.
If you are craving for some craft beer, pizzas, burgers or pastas, this is a
good place to drop by. No doubt prices are slightly higher compared to
Alexandra Food Centre, but still relatively worthwhile.
And beers are available from Day time! Drink UP!
Seasalt- The Seafood Place.
Grilled Fresh Salmon with Potato Salad and
Greens ( with tomato salsa) $15.00
Salmon are like my big time favourite and my top choice always. Was very happy with the presentation~
With the salmon
seasoned in seasalt, black pepper and herbs grilled to slight crisp on
the skin, you get taste of the sea melting in your mouth. This salmon dish totally pleases my palettes and makes us a happy
person thereafter.
Their hand battered fried fish with fries and greens, priced at $9, is also another best seller.
Seasalt sells a variety of seafood selections and I do recommend you to have a try!

Quench your thirst with Brown Sugar's
interesting and seemingly 'healthy' drinks. I have since long give up on bubble
teas of any kinds but Brown Sugar sells some pretty good drinks though.
There are different sugar levels you can choose ranging from 0% to 100% at 25%
interval and they have some special yakult-based drink, smoothies, bubble teas
etc. Overall quite good, slurp slurp.
Yalkult Ice Green Tea plus Jelly. Medium sized; $3.90 with sugar 25%.

Stew Kuche helmed by a Malaysian chem formely of the no-defunct German-style Stew House. Food is served to customers and this is where you can order your beer.
We ordered some Grilled Chicken Pesto mixed in herbs $10.90.
The grilled chicken was flavourful and tasty enough but the pasta
was a tad too oily and not really to my liking. The portion is huge enough
for some sharing.
We read that they are famous for their German Pork Knuckle,
Oxtail Stew but we didn't have the chance to order that. Should plan to try
their pork knuckle next time.
They are closed by 2.45pm before opening for dinner again in
the evening., squid ink spaghetti are available too~

Another famous store is the De Burg, well known for their Huge (or small, depending) beef , chicken or pork burgers~ The signature De Burg, we read is packed with a 200g Australian striploin beef patty. Choose from different patty weighs. Burger lovers are encouraged to go ahead and give it a try. Heard many raves on their burgers.

Once again this coffeeshop is located at Blk 119 Jalan Bukit Merah Lane 1, right across Alexandra Food Centre.

Stew Kuche? This place is as German as my Lederhosen from Aliexpress. The Roesti (not German in the first place) had the texture of badly mushed potato mush. The pork knuckle had a foul smell to it. The sausages were served on a slice of processed cheese. Half the menu not available. Beer was sour, no gas - keg sitting in the heat for too long.
ReplyDeleteService - everything can not.
According to the waiter: Singaporean owner, Indian and Chinese service and kitchen personnel. Why open a "German" restaurant? Why not stick with something you know and can manage? Sorry but this is a very sad state of affairs, certainly will never be back.
