[HONG KONG TRAVEL 4] EATS, PLAY 2016: CAPITAL CAFE 華星冰室 - 茶餐廳 ( WAN CHAI 灣仔)

***
華星冰室 is another famous local café patronized by celebrities and locals alike. With its fairly modernized outlook, the café looks newly revamped, or at least, well maintained. This was in fact, the first local cafe we stepped in upon arriving in Hong Kong.
We were bombarded with expressionless, "black-faced" staff who were not the most patient person on earth and that did not really help us to start off the early morning on a bright cheery mood. ( This attitude, we later realized, is common across Hong Kong's 茶餐廳 Cafe industry, so don't be surprised if you ever encounter such.)
In fact, the space was really cramped, almost filled up with patrons and we had the chance to 搭檯 daap toi- sharing tables as in Hong Kong culture.
Table sharing is alright but not when it's all cramped up?

The orders
We did not order set meals but rather ala-carte.

On the right.
西多士 $19HKD
One of the  many 多士 toasts on the menu. There were many variations of every single category, but with no pictures illustrations , it was pretty hard to understand what lurked behind the names.
The toast though fragrantly coated with egg, was a tad too oily as it was deep fried. The additional one dollop of butter was really a spoiler. I preferred my oil hidden from view pls, less calories guilt maybe?
Anyone felt the same sentiment? =D

On the left.
黑松露炒蛋多士 $37HKD
Truffled scrambled eggs on toast was awesome. Truffle bits were  coated sprinkled on scramble eggs, capping on the lightly grilled thick toast. At least it was not overly oily and smells great.
All there is to the 'truffle' are the sprinkles on top, so... well, not the most authentic truffle experince.

Coffee? Eggs Or Both?
Big mistake came when I made the order of the black coffee with lemon [啡] (lin fei), above

Examples of  hard-to-understand terms on the menu include [滚水蛋], [ 奶水蛋 ], [奶水] .... what exactly is milk with egg?  Is it milk with raw egg mixed into it? And does [奶水] (nai shui) refers to plain milk? These were enough to make us pause for thoughts. Obviously quite hard to visualize without any images attached.
I learnt the hard way with and it was not pleasant. In fact it was really black, bitter coffee dipped in with lemon slices which did nothing at all to pleasant the taste of the bitterness.
For someone who loves black coffee this might just do it, but for me... not ever again.

Perhaps there are other enticing items on the menu which we were not aware of.
Care to share?
Leave me a comment if there are other yummies in this cafe that we did not experience!!
