[ EATS] GINZA TENDON GINZA ITSUKI — FRIED TEMPURA ( TANJONG PAGAR)
Japanese Tempura Don!
When Tendon Ginza Itsuki first opened its doors to hungry patrons at Tanjong Pagar, I was baffled by it's seemingly endless queue especially during lunch and dinner time. I guess waiting time could have been set back to 1 hour plus. This on one fine weekday in the evening right about 530pm when it reopens for the night time crowd, I was there and there it was, no queue. So the delighted me, got myself on the chairs outside and was shown into my bar counter seat in 5 minutes time.

P.S: Everyone has to be present before you will be shown to your table, even though it's your turn in the queue. Else, tough luck, you gotta wait outside.
The spanking menu
It was clear that there are only 2 mains to choose from:
Special TENDON (Tempura on Rice) consists of prawns, chicken ( 2 pcs each), half boiled egg, Vegetables ( 4pcs) $13.90
Vegetable TENDON consists of Pumpkin, shiitake mushrooms, lotus roots, egg plant and a mix of others $12.90
Watch and Eat
The good thing about seating at the counter? You can watch the Japanese chefs in action.
Pretty fascinating to see them laying the fried tempura.
The bad thing? You will smell like a fried goreng thereafter. With the fryer and oil so close, you will catch the cooking smell.
Special Tendon
So when the fresh bowl of Tendon finally came, it was all glistering in golden deep fried batter.
Looks super appetizing. That's until you have had your 4rd tempura and are going... Argghhhh...
Succulent Freshness
No doubt the ingredients were fresh. Prawns and chicken were hit-on and so were the vegetable crips. But you know this is not your typical healthy bowl and when you have 8 pcs of huge fried stuff, things can go a bit too much and too overwhelming for your stomach and appetite. You know I always pride myself in being a well/good eater but this full bowl of tendon including so much fried tempura, was, unfortunately a bit too gelat/oily for me as I ate on.
I love the rice though with the crystal clear large grains of Japanese rice with tamago and tendon sauce. For ladies, actually it's good to share a bowl just to get a taste of it if neither of you are too hungry. I even spotted a couple sharing a bowl. Can understand it's too heavy for 1 pax consumption. Each set comes with a chawanmushi and soup
Conclusion
It's definitely worth the money for this authentic bowl of Tendon right here in Singapore.
However, I wouldn't say it's worth the wait if I were to have to queue for 1 hour or more.
Go when it's just about to open to beat the crowd!
