[Cafe Hopping in Singpaore] Cafe & Meal MUJI Singapore

by - Tuesday, October 20, 2015

We have heard skeptics of how Cafe & Meal MUJI Singapore's concept is all-too-similar to the zha cai fan (economy mixed rice) concept we have. So how do you justify a mixed rice plate to be over $10sgd? Perhaps I would say that in a way it's the quality of the meal, the taste as well as the method of cooking. It's a different concept from the typical style we are used to having.
Quick glance at the selections and we can spot variations from the typical dishes from the mixed rice stalls. For one, we are having salads/cold pastas as an accompaniment to rice, now this is something new.

The hot deli consists of meat of tofu ( protein) selections,

Self-service concept from ordering to picking up. No service charge but subjected to 10% GST.

All 3 deli meals cost at $12.90 with option of 2 cold deli and 1 hot deli. 4 deli with 2 hot and 2 cold options will set you back at $16.90.
We had the 3 deli options
In all, the delis are not oily nor too heavy on the tastebud. It's a feel-good and clean set meal. Even with the presence of meat, the meal still feels light on the stomach. For such quality and presentation, it justifies for the pricing which I think was worthy. As Cafe MUJI stated on its website, their concept is about " Simple food that is gentle for your body" and it definitely speaks well for the deli sets.

In this set, there's the Prawn and Edamame Salad with spiced Mayo, Sakura Chicken & Pickled Salad with yuzu flavor hot deli was Fried Chicken Sweet Chili Mayo.
Drink was hot matcha latte which was strong, thick and flavorful, $4.90.

On this set was also the Prawn and Edamame Salad with spiced mayo, Vegetable Omelette and Hot Deli was Spinach Chicken Hamburger. I had mine with Ten Grains Rice at additional $1 as a healthier alternative to white rice.
Chai Milk Tea was heavily roasted and costs $4.90.

For desserts, we had the Roasted Tea Pudding $5.40. It wasn't specially outstanding, pretty normal and we wouldn't order again.

Relaxing ambience, ample seating areas on a weekday night.
Head down to the Muji cafe for dinner perhaps?
