[Cafe Hopping in Singapore] Dazzling Cafe Singapore (Capitol Building/ City Hall)
Spent a lovely afternoon having our lunch together with my sweetie at the Dazzling Cafe which has just opened in Singapore. A successful chain from Taiwan, the Singapore brunch opened with much hype ups in social medias and we were pretty much anticipating the food and dining experience.
Here's where Dazzling is currently located- at the new mall Capitol Piazza ( right across Raffles City), lined with a list of new eateries slated to open soon. Housed right besides the newly revamped Capitol Theatre which has undergone a major change since and has reopened currently staging Singapura the Musical.
It was pretty easy to locate Dazzling on the 1st level as they were the first to be in full operation as of May 2015. ( At the point of writing, new eateries such as 1933 Singapore and Angelina Singapore has since opened.)
Dazzling scores on the ambience and decorations.
Singapore Edition- Mango and Coconut Gelato Honey Toast.
The ambience was definitely for girls to fall in love with. It's comfy, cozy and cool fuzzy with the greens and pinks. Unfortunately because of the huge crowd we only managed to snare a table near the counter, though we would have loved to sit inside. There's a huge seating area hidden within and I was surprised that it was full house on a weekday afternoon no less.
Outdoors, we had good lighting for wefies and waitress dressed in French chambermaids getups.
Here's our order:
Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast $19.90
Looking gorgeously photogenic don't you agree?
Taste wise? Wouldn't say we were satisfied, unfortunately.
We had not known prior to dining in Dazzling and had only read reviews subsequently after on some of the things we had missed out:
1. We were not informed we could have chosen how our toast wants to be done- Normal, Soft or Crispy. So what we had in the end, we were not sure. Crispy I suppose? Understood this was the basic for any toasts orders but the staff apparently didn't ask us for it. Take heed.
2. We were not served nor told the way to eat in was to slice off the top layer. Thus in the end we just ate in our way and it was an artistic mess. :D
Basically we were having more cream than ice cream. Those who had tried, wouldn't you agree? The "edible" toasts were actually cubes hidden within and though they were well buttered, were hardly fragrant. The crusts holding up the whole structure were "not edible" as they were meant to be that way- hard. The cream was actually holding up the whole presentation and thus customers were able to take multiple photos before actually tucking it without the whole structure melting away,
For us, the saving grace at least was the Scallop and Crabmeat Spaghetti Aglio Olio $18.90.
Yes any chef should be able to cook up a decent aglio olio and though easy, this delectable dish was yummy and fragrant with bits of fried garlics and scallops.
We spent a total of $45.65 inclusive of GST and service charge. Would we return? No. The food was basic and not memorable. Though we love the ambience and layout but it would not be worth a queue more than 15 mins.
