[Beauty] Do Good, Do A Mani Pedi at The Nail Social

by - Friday, March 13, 2015

Planning to have a mani pedi and do good at the same time?
That is the concept behind The Nail Social- a socially-conscious salon that was established with the aim of training and employing local underprivileged women with a higher barrier to employment, so as to help them progress from a position of vulnerability to security and self-sufficiency.

Why not make your latest beauty treatment worthwhile?
This concept has been around in countries like Cambodia's  Daughters of Cambodia in Phnom Penh and I personally am a strong advocate of social enterprise. Empowering women by providing them a job is the best way to get them out of poverty towards independence. It's good news that  Singapore is moving towards such enterprises.
The Nail Social is founded by Ms Cheryl Ou, a self-taught entrepreneur who went on to win her first major entrepreneurship award, the Spirit of Enterprise, at 25.

A latest addition to the hip Haji Lane enclave, The Nail Social is a novel lifestyle concept salon that offers nail and foot reflexology services, coffee and desserts, as well as fair trade retail all housed under one roof. Thanks to Cheryl, I had the honor to be try out their Signature package services and was attended by warm Germaine and Kalai, 2 beautiful ladies.

As mentioned, there are many little trinkets by different social brands on sales at the salon.
Feel free to browse through and satisfy your shopping desires at the same time.

Nail products used are organic, non-toxic, fair trade and cruelty-free, making visits to the salon environmentally friendly and safe even for expectant mothers.

More comfortable seating at the upper loft.

Here's a range of OPI colors to choose from.

Know what's so awesome? A personal iPad pre-loaded with movies, games for your entertainment! Complimentary lemonade for all customers and wines on Friday and Saturday evenings with minimum spend are available as well.

Even the sweet treats served in the salon are socially beneficial to the enterprises. Desserts are procured from stay-home single mothers registered with Beyond Social Services (a non-profit family services centre) and a wide selection of teas and hot chocolates are sourced from Puro as well.
How's that for an all encompassing social enterprise?

After more than 1 hour of pampering, I am proud to show off my #nailfie #notd :D

You would fall in love with the intricate jewelry pieces there. Plus your spending goes towards supporting a local good cause, what's there to hesitate?
Ms Cheryl Ou, co-founder of The Nail Social shares, “At The Nail Social, we hope that our customers’ experience and overall sense of satisfaction are enhanced, knowing that every dollar spent is not only as a treat to themselves but is channeled into making a difference to someone else’s life."
 I couldn't agree more.  Don't you?

Aside from offering a relaxing and therapeutic experience for its customers, The Nail Social hopes to  creates sustainable, positive impact on the community. Focusing on local underprivileged women, The Nail Social has reached out to single-mothers, ex-offenders and women from low-income households, in hope of empowering them with vocational skills training and thereby paving the way for better life opportunities.
The ladies at The Nail Social are trained under The Pink Room International Nail Academy and are equipped with the skills and certifications for employment.
Here's a list of services pricing.

If you too are an advocate of creating a sustainable community and empowering women, do support The Nail Social and at the same time experience the comfy nail pampering services by the lovely ladies.  Your money will be channeled to good use for local communities. It's through training of skill sets and employment creations that the socitey can prosper and grow.

Head for some pampering!
