[Food Review] Crab time @ Momma Kong's!

by - Monday, October 06, 2014

Finally met my darling over dinner and had a good chit chat. ^^
Her kids are growing up so fast~ Hope to see them soon~~

By my gal's recommendation, we headed to MommaKong's for their crab dinner affair~

All the 'tools' required for crab operations were ready.

The place were surprisingly patronized by many non-singaporeans and I wonder how they know about them when Momma Kong was just newly set up back in June/May this year. Must be their crabs?

FRIED MANTOU (SET OF TWO) $3
Fluffy crispy buns were a good compliment if you order their chili crabs for dipping but nonetheless they were good on their own. Steamed versions are available as well for a healthier choice.

 CRAB BEE HOON SOUP $38
We had our order of the Crab Bee Hoon. Using only air-flown crabs from Sri-Lanka, each crab weighs about 650g. A special service they offer is the deshelling for $10+ per crab, perfect if you are lazy but we opt out as the fun lies in deshelling no?
The soup bee hoon was pretty good with a milky broth that's flavorful without the adding of any MSG. Had a great time slurping up but take heed, the portion is not huge. Even for 2 gals, we think we still have stomach space for more. You can also choose if you want to add in Huatiao Rice Wine to enhance the flavor.

PAN-SEARED SCALLOPS $14
With crispy bacon slices & crunchy sauteed asparagus was a bit too salty and burnt for our liking.

BLUEBERRY WHITE TEA $6
This, you can get it anywhere so no introduction needed:)

Overall, we had a pleasant dinning experience but the portion of the serving is abit small and the pricing, I would say only average. We did not try their chili or pepper crab so am not able to comment how good or different they might be from other brands. For me it's not especially unforgettable and I can do with or without returning back.
However the ambience is nice and makes a good choice if you are bringing in foreign friends or business acquaintances for a local Singapore crab dining experience and wanna beat the crowds at other seafood places.
