[ Food Review] Choo Choo 츄츄 Korean Fried Chicken in Singapore
Finally had my chance to try out Choo Choo Fried Chicken. What will be the verdict?
Location wise, fairly easy to find, though just as easy to miss it. Choo Choo is located just 1 street before Haji Lane, in Bali Lane itself.
Now for the food!
Choo Choo's Kimchi Spam burger (left) was surprisingly good with the combination of my favourite spam, layered with mayonnaise in between. Must Try.
Tteokbokki (sweet rice cake) $4 was a bit too hard for our liking. Skip it.
Fried Mushroom was good but gets too oily after more bites... well but of course it's fried that's why.
Here's our basket of crispy and soy chicken. Fried chicken is served in 3 different styles, Crispy, Soy or Sweet in the form of Whole chicken, Half Chicken or 8 piece wings.
They divided the flavors into 2 separated baskets- here's the soy version. I must say the soy version is better relatively. Chicken was fresh, tender and pipping hot, the soy flavor was a bit too light, but overall still good.
... and this is the crispy version. Which of course is more like the usual fried chicken. Not bad as well and the portion is huge for half chicken size and can easily fill up 4 persons. We wondered why the split between soy and fried was uneven? Obviously there were much more of fried than the soy version and I think they should split up the portions more evenly instead.
The portions though huge and good for sharing means you can't really have your chicken individually. Fried Chicken in Korean culture has always been about sharing, drinking beer and that explains the serving size. For individual portions that you can finish, 4 Fingers' still the best choice.
Nevertheless, the seating area is really small and cramped during dinner time, so you have to wait in line and/or squeeze with other customers sitting side by side. Takeaway if you do not mind. Not the best place for a lingering stay at night over chitchats, but well for some decent Korean Fried Chicken, Choo Choo is not a bad choice.
