by - Monday, April 07, 2014

Crystal Jade has opened a new casual dining outlet featuring traditional Vietnamese favourites and homestyle Chinese dishes at its new C-Jade Viet Café IN located at Bugis+. We were honored to be given a preview on what C-Jade Viet Cafe IN has to offer for diners.

“The new café offers simple yet flavourful Vietnamese food and comforting homestyle modern Chinese food at reasonable prices,” said Stella To, Vice President, Corporate Communications and Marketing, Crystal Jade Culinary Concepts Holding.
“Since its soft opening in late December 2013, C-Jade Viet Café IN has become popular amongst professionals to host casual business lunches and with for shoppers to enjoy a good meal with their friends and families.”

Vietnamese Spring Roll ($5.90 per serving) – three refreshing spring rolls made with cooked shrimp, cooked vermicelli,  slices of cucumbers, carrots and a sprinkle of mint leaves for added aroma.

Watercress with Honey ($2.80) and Ginger Tea with Pomelo Honey ($2.80)

Deep-fried Crispy Tied Meat ($6.90 per serving) – four chunks of Vietnamese pork sausage (also known as ‘tied meat’) are deep fried and served as crispy ‘cups. Vietnamese pork sausages are made by pounding meat into a paste, wrapped and tied in banana leaves and boiled.
I adore this dish! Tasted different from your typical Ngoh Hiang, the Tied Meat is thin and crispy fragrant.

Chilled Shredded Chicken with Rice Roll ($9.90 per serving) – a crunchy salad comprising shredded chicken breast meat mixed with fresh vegetables such as coriander and bean sprouts all together in a spicy yet tangy sauce made of fish sauce, sugar and lime. Served with 4 rice paper rolls for diners to make your own salad rolls!

How fun is that? Making your own salad roll~~

Doing it is actually harder than it seems... but definitely fun!
Soak the rice paper in the petri dish filled with water to soften it. Hold on to the rice paper with your chopsticks to ensure that the paper can be removed easily.
We had many failed attempts trying to grip the rice papers out thereafter.

Transfer the rice paper to another dry dish, lay your salad and roll away~

Tada!! Refreshing tangy with the fish sauce and lime, this makes for a wonderful light and delightful dish to whet up your appetite.

Hazel, here with me and trying to roll~~~

Tada! Proud owner of the spring roll.

Here's the next dish-  Beef Pho!
Soup Noodle (Pho) with Raw and Cooked Sliced Beef ($8.90 per serving) – a bowl of rich, lightly spiced beef broth served with cooked bean sprouts, mint leaves, noodles and finely sliced cooked and raw beef. Love the smooth Pho and tender beef~

Add some sweetness and crunch with the Chilled Salad with Pomelo, Radish, Cucumber and Carrot ($6.90) – fresh pomelo  pulps are mixed and tossed in the same spicy sauce with thinly sliced radish, cucumbers and carrots.

Let's take a break from food and tour round the C-Jade Viet Cafe.
Warm and soothing, the cafe is decorated in Vietnamese style with pretty lanterns all round.

Here's the kitchen area where food will be delivered to diners.

Last but not least comes my favourite dish of all! Announcing the QQ Rice with Steamed Chicken ($15.90 for a serving; each serving is recommended for two persons). Alright, I am really a rice person aka fan tong so I loved any rice dish and the QQ Rice didn't disappoint.

Besides traditional Vietnamese favourites, C-Jade Viet Café IN also offers a number of specialties for diners who prefer contemporary Chinese cuisine and the QQ Rice with Steamed Chicken is one of them. The dish comes in three types of rice – fragrant, brown and glutinous rice – steamed together and served in a large pan.

Served with half a size of the gorgeous, gleaming soya sauce chicken that is akin to steamed kampong chicken style, the rice comes served with an array with other sides- fried yam, lotus roots and onion, topped with scallion oil and ginger paste. Feeling hungry yet?

We were taught the way to tuck into this dish is to remove all the sides first.

Afterwhich, leaving behind the chicken, scallion oil and ginger paste behind, mixed them well altogether!

 Mix, mix, mix~~

And Tada!! Ready to be served warm with the other delicious sides and of course the whole mixture was really fragrant and finger-licking good. This dish can definitely be shared among 2 -3 pax esp. for ladies, since it comes with glutinous rice as well, one gets filled up easily.

Tuck in!!

Chendol with Red Beans( $3.80) comes with red bean, grass jelly, dripped with coconut milk only and no Gula Melaka.

For diners with a sweet tooth, the café offers over 30 beverages and drinks such as the thick Vietnam Coffee ($2.90 for a cup served hot), served the authentic way.

The 85-seat café, provides over 55 dishes ranging from rice, soup noodles, dried vermicelli, snacks, appetizers and salads, you will be spoiled for choice.

Ongoing is the ALL DAY set menu for $9.90++, choose between Pho beef or chicken.
Value for money I say.

There's even a Vietnamese drum on display! For Vietnamese cuisine lovers, there is no reason why you shouldn't drop by C-Jade Viet Café IN when you are in the Bugis.

C-Jade Viet Café IN is open daily between 11am to 10pm for lunch through dinner.
