[Cafe Hopping in Singapore] Carpenter and Cook

by - Friday, April 18, 2014

Hello peeps! It's Easter Good Friday today~~ What are you busy with now? I hope you will be enjoying your long weekend holidays as much as I do.
So, today I am introducing Carpenter and Cook located all the way up in the Bukit Timah area and slightly further away from town area, this location is not exactly the friendliest place to get to especially if you don't drive. ;)

Was really excited to be there. I am sure this cafe is a familiar name to many of you. If I remembered correctly, this was one of the earlier cafes established before the Cafe Booms in Singapore years ago and one which I have always been wanting to visit but never had a chance to.

Let's step into the retro cafe!
Styled in items from the 50s and 60s, this place spells nostalgic with a capital N.

Tea sets, chinawares....

Shoe lasts!!!
Who wants to make some high heels or flats?

Homemade jams for sales

Here's the selections of sweets available- tarts, cakes...

More pastries and cakes...They served mostly sweets and hardly any savory pastries. There's no main courses available as well so don't come expecting for a full course lunch or dinner.

Judging from the crowd gathered on a weekend late afternoon, this cafe still has its charms for many youngsters to chill and laze around.

Many many people in little groups enjoying the afternoon.

The furnitures around the cafe, such as tables and chairs are actually for sales with a price tag attached.
Buy them home if you fancy any.

Everything is self-service: Order and make payment before collecting your cakes.
So TADA! Here's our selections for the day~

Bacon Quiche: $7.00. My favourite as I like savoury stuff.
It was only lukewarm after they warmed it up in the oven upon our order and actually it tasted quite normal by standards.

For some zest and sour aftertaste, try their Lemon Cream Tart $6.50. Quite enjoyable and well, normal.

The last we had was the Passionfruit Meringue Tart $6.50, shown below top right corner. Hmmm to be honest the taste was quite forgettable, but overall all the pastries were still a joy to tuck into.

One Awesome fact is they do not charge GST and Service Charges~ Yea!

We really enjoyed the nice lovely ambience of the cozy cafe but food wise, limited choices and the sweets aren't that outstanding in taste to be honest. It's a great chill out place to be if you are in the area, but the place can be quite a din when everyone's  talking at the same time and you might have to shout occasionally. Hahah nonetheless, it's a fun place to visit if you are in the area ^^

  1. Great review, thanks for sharing. The cream tart looks really good. There is this map called CafeSG that lets you find all the local cafes in Singapore! Super useful for cafe hopping and to discover new cafes near home and workplace.
