F1 Singapore Grand Prix- Rev Up Singapore! Thursday Pit Lane Experience

by - Sunday, October 27, 2013

I apologise for this back-dated post... hee....

So anyway, back on 19th Sept, Singapore GP organized its first ever Pit Lane Experience a day before the official F1 Singapore Grand Prix race was scheduled to begin on the 20th Sept.

My friend managed to ballot for the tickets, which was how the public can obtained access. However I got to know that the community services like youth groups etc. also gave out free tickets, but well that was another story. Anyway I was quite excited that we can actually be walking on the Pit Lane.

Here's what happened back then! Enjoy~~

We entered via Marina Bay Circuit's Gate 1

Roving acts welcomed visitors to get grooving!!

Besides access to the pit lane, which started only from 9pm onwards, visitors were treated to a mini carnival at the Zone 1 F1 Village.
Long queue for to get behind the hot seats of the F1 driver.

As usual, F1 merchandises from your favourite teams were up for sales.
@ Ferrari's store.

Hungry? There were food stalls to fill your tummy.

@ Mercedes' shop

@ Lotus.

Fringe activities for all- the most popular station was the foc temporary tattoo service.

No kidding. We queued for almost 2 hrs?? And still we didn't managed to get inked... really ARGH...... the queue was moving SLOWLY and well we understand it's not simple... but still.... stood waiting till legs numbed.
Look at the snaking queue! Even though it was super slow, many people continued queuing.
I guessed it was really fun but too bad.

Tattoo artists( foreground) at work and visitors (background) looking super delighted.

Another happy activity was photo-taking with the race car, no physical copies but only soft-copy versions.

..... And finally after much waiting, it was time for the highlights of the night! We were finally allowed in to the Pit Lane.
YEA!! Journey from this gate onwards.

Everyone was busy shooting themselves, or the surroundings.

It was really cool... I have only walked outside the lane, outside the grids, yet there I was, inside the lane.

Looking all excited and feeling very hot!!  haha

Look at the crowd gathered that night...

Introducing the 2013 SGP Grid Girls!!

Posing for everyone~~ ^^

Swaying to the beats of the drums!! Very happening~`

                                                                                Love them to bits!

Moving on to the garage

What interesting sights can be spotted on the lane?
1. Overseas filming crew

2. F1 Drivers jogging on the track ( I don't know who)

3. Definitely Red Bull drivers but they were running so fast I didn't even know what happened.
All we heard was a burst of screaming from the fans and they fled!!  Sebastian Vettel maybe?

Welcome to the Team Garages at the Pit Building.

Race cars~~~ parts of them anyway.

Each garage bears the name of its driver.

Squeezing through the crowd.

Red Bull.

Even the control station (not sure if there's a proper naming for this) looks way cool
Lewis Hamilton- Not. Nope he was not there as expected.

The garage for Fernando was so crowded you would have thought he was actually there.

However, it revealed to be... nothing much really. Haha.

Another huge crowd gathered at the Red Bull station as we walked further down. Pretty sure some driver was inside that race car but we never knew who it was and well no big actions happened.

Even the companions from the fellow garage were looking at the frenzy. Must be thinking 'Hmm what's the big deal man??'

Anyway it was time to leave and everyone has to clear the place at the same time.

So,how do you cleared up a crowd of thousands at one go?
Ans: See the red ropes the crew were holding?
Once everyone has been called to exit from the garage all of them were back on the lane...

...The crew then stood in a line behind the last visitors holding the rope and just "sweep" the visitors out.
Pretty neat idea right? I have never seen this before! Okay, to me it was an innovative and smart way to chase people out. Thumbs up.

Totally enjoyed the pit lane experience and if only it could start earlier. The 9pm+ timing was a bit too late for a weekday. Anyway, we truly enjoyed and had fun!! Well done to SGP~~

So thanks for reading and till next time!!!
