Let's Eat at Yeolbong Jjimdak 열봉찜닭 in Seoul, Korea

Okay I admit, I went looking for this place as I heard reviews on how delicious the braised chicken stew was and not because of  famous YG celebrity Se7en ( I am sorry to Se7en's fans! ^_^)

We managed to locate it at the Hongik Branch, thank god. Almost gave up when we couldn't find it. Wanted to go to their Garousil branch at first but can't find it and kept getting lost. 

As defined by Wikipedia, Jjimdak originated in the city of AndongGyeongsangbuk-do Province and is made with chicken, various vegetables marinated in a ganjang (Korean soy sauce) based sauce. The name literally means "steamed chicken of Andong".

And in case you haven't read, I did visit Andong and tried out the authentic, true-blue Jjimdak on my solo trip as well. READ HERE on my Andong adventures.

Anyway, if you can't make it to Andong, Seoul will be just fine for your Jjimdak cravings. 

 Yeolbong Jjimdak will be your choice, right in Hongdae — Opened by a celebrity and visited by many celebrities as well.
Cute 'chick carry chili' logo and Se7en greet you at the door.

 Walk up along the stairs and many celebrities' photos adorned the wall.
I only recognized TOP from Big Bang at the bottom right corner. haha I am quite bad with celebrities.



Finally, entering the eatery- The cute front counter.

Now the food: 
On the left of the menu:
 - Top: you have "Yeolbong Jjimdak" which comes with chicken, onion, potato, cellophane noodle. You can choose from Small 2pax 19000Won, Medium 3-4pax 26000Won or Large 4-5pax 35000Won, level of spiciness (mild , normal, spicy, very spicy) and the thickness of the cellophane noodle - thick or thin.

- Bottom: "Yeolbong Shun Salr Jjimdak" is the same except that rice cake is added in. 2 sizes only medium 23000Won and large 30000Won

Side dish- oldeng (fish cakes)

 Here comes the highlight- Yeolbong Jjimdak!!! Without the rice cake. This is medium size for the 4 of us and it's really filling, spicy level was normal and it was already quite hot, manageable but still... At least it was not as hot as the one I tried in Andong. ^^

With Thick cellophane noodle. I love the noodle~~~ BEST!
We did not take the extra rice to mix in with the leftover gravy as we were already full from eating this whole plate of goodies. In culture, locals order rice to mix with gravy towards the end of a meal.

 We did however order some rice rolls wrapped with seaweed as appetizers. Seaweed was crispy but otherwise it tasted normal.





(Beside a famous noraebang – Su Noraebang[수노래방]
Look out for the chicken logo and Se7ev's standee. For me I just stumbled upon the shop, but it's easily recognizable once you found it.)
