Old-School Bakeries in Singapore- Galicier Confectionery( Tiong Bahru) and Love Confectionery (Bukit Merah)

How many traditional bakeries can you spot around your neighborhood today? Not much?
Introducing to you famous bakeries still withstanding the test of times and patronized by many.

1. Galicier Confectionery
Right in the hearts of heritage Tiong Bahru, is a renowned old-brand specializing in traditional Nonya kuehs handmade lovingly by the good people from Galicier. A simple, practical shop with no fanciful decorations, this is the place to be for a reminisce of the olden days.
Not just kuehs, you will also be able to find cakes, pastries, cookies and more.
It's hardly possible to leave this shop empty handed.

Kuehs range from 60 cents-90 cents per piece. Cheap right?
Steamed Tapioca, Ondeh Ondeh and Kwek Dah Dah are some of my favourites. Many of the items are coated with grated coconut or stuffed with brown sugar. So if you are are coconut lover, these delights are for you.

If you don't favor coconut, fear not as there are many other flavored kuehs like Sago, jackfruit kuehs. Or you can select from their range of pastries like egg tarts, cream puffs, Huat Kuehs, Swiss Rolls which are just as delicious and reasonably priced.

Cookies galore~~
Muffins, cakes, custard puffs...the choices are endless..... ^^

These are some of the stuff I bought.... freshly made daily.
This place is definitely worth a visit.

2. Love Confectionery
Nothing fanciful or extravagant, Love Confectionery is your practical, bakery-next-door.

Slices of cakes stacked with cream in various flavors and buns are simply displayed in the glass cabinets. Fuss free, just grab and go. Of course they are famous for these cakes and buns, but inside at the cashier counter, many other traditional old-school cookies can be spotted as well.
I personally loved the peanut cake best. ( top left hand corner)  It's a really simple cake coated with peanut chips (what do you call them? anyways... ^^ ) but it's moist and fluffy without all the extras like sugar icings and smells really fragrant.
