[FOODIES] WHAT TO EAT @GEYLANG SERAI BAZAAR 2016

by - Monday, July 04, 2016

Morning peeps!!  This post is published in the morning today as I want to let you read about it ASAP and head down to the bazaar which is which is coming to an end tomorrow, Tuesday on the eve of Hari Raya
So just Let me just interrupt my travel posts with the feature on Geylang Serai.
Yes! Hurry down if you have not~

Bazaar + Social Media
Our favourite bazaar is back and has, since last year, turned into a social media playground, bombed by pictures of new food items spotted Read: Eats at Geylang Serai Bazaar 2015. It has become a channel for any entrepreneurs testing out their latest food products to start peddling from Geylang Serai Bazaar. Even though the rent do not come cheap, personally I think this is a great way to test out the local foodie market. See, so many innovative products, such as the pan-fried rolled ice creams or colored churros from last year,  have appeared out of nowhere but received warm reception with the crowd and have went viral with actual shops openings.

This year was no exception and in fact saw a huge surge in new innovative products peddling from the stores. From international flavors to local favourites, there were no short of creativity from Singaporeans!

Some of the food we tried:

Spicy Korean yogurt by 365 Foodologist

As I mentioned on instagram, this Spicy Korean yogurt felt a bit of a gimmick. Yes it's nice and cooling to have a cup of yogurt under the hot sun, thinking that you are making a "healthier" choice. But... Taste wise? The so-called spiciness came from a sweet-mild spicy brown sauce which was drizzled over. Do not expect a full kimchi-red flavored kind of yogurt — which I had expected to be.

The sauce is not your typical spicy bibimbap nor the bulgogi kind of thick spicy sauce. Can you sport some brown, chocolate-like sauce? Yes, those are the spicy sacue. Nonetheless, we still marveled over how such sauces came about, never tasted such acquired taste before.
Points for Creativity definitely.  =)

$5 per cup with 2 toppings

Shawarmas by Dubai Street Food

This is Chicken Shawarmas akin to the Chicken Kebak we have always had. Chesse, cabbage and the chicken shredded and mixed in spicy-sweet sauce.
One thing about this? It was so salty,  We could not finished this. The chicken bites in particular.
Sorry.  Otherwise seriously, there is no kick in this, sadly.

Mr Wadeh's
Yes, an original local food. Mr Wadeh's Wadeh saw a long snaking queue when its stall opened at about 4/5 plus. The queue costs us almost 30 mins but no one was complaining and we were wondering what's so special about this stall.

Price was 3 pcs for $2 and was prepared freshly from the stove, deep fried and fluffy.
It was good old comfort food with the crispy prawn ontop. No regrets.

Sahwon Salmon Burgers and Wraps

I was putting my hopes up high for this "Salmon" burger. Alas, the taste was quite the norm.
I know that at a price of $5.50, real salmon is out of the picture, but still... Expect nothing more than a salmon patty ( with whatever else that's mixed in together) and a bit of a wasabi sauce for the kick. Nice to have once, but that's it.
I prefer my Mac burger. Opps.

The same stall also sells this very colorful pudding drink which is another new item spotted at the market this year. Very pretty right? But we can't bear to ingest all that coloring.
The coffee on the left? Those are yummy and the owner was saying they sold it cheaper than Mustafa's $2.5? ( He sold $2) True?

Ice Burnz
Thai Green Milk Tea

Potato Run Cheese Potato

This — is no Taiwan potato. Nonetheless the deep-fried potato with the crispy outer skin makes up for it. At least I know what I was eating. Topped with cheesy sauce for $3 and additional $1 for the ham toppings. Or any other choices for that matter.
It was by far, the happiest purchase of all.

Overdose
This is one super hot stall. With long queues for their drinks. I have to applaud their attractive packaging branding. It was something new, drinks packed in a big ziplocked bag.
We had the cappuccino, but well, it was ordinary really.
The more popular Kopi Durain was sold out.

S'mores Dip Biscuits

The ingredients used for S'mores Dip was extremely Simple and I believe you can recreate easily at home.
1. Melt white/ dark chocolate in a pot.
2, Lay the base of the aluminum serving foil container with a layer of the liquid chocolate
3. Put marshmallows on top ( about 7 or 8 pieces) to fill up the space.
4. Send into the oven/ toaster and toast the marshmallows till golden brown on the surface.
5. Take it out. Done!

At $2.5 per tub, what kind of biscuits to dip with? Our favourite old-school So Tah Piah what else. Stunned. -_-||

What you have to do is just to dip the biscuits in.
Verdict? I am better off eating a chocolate bar on it's on. =)
Just saying.

That's all I have for now and Selemat Hari Raya to all Muslim friends who are celebrating this joyous occasion this coming Wednesday!
