RUN. EAT. REPEAT- RUNNING MAN KOREAN BBQ RESTAURANT ( CHINATOWN)

by - Monday, June 13, 2016

In Your Face
Previously known as Gangnam Korean BBQ Restaurant (Jiang Nan), this eatery has gone through some revamp which included a shift from their original location in Temple Street to a change in name, now more affectionately known as the Running Man Korean BBQ Restaurant.
Rings a bell?
Before you get all excited, I have to be the heartbreaker and inform that this BBQ house has nothing to do with the famous Korea variety show 'Running Man' that we are familiar with. ( other that the store signage bearing similarity, there is nothing 'Running Man' about it inside.) :P

Ambience
A cosy, warm place to chill with significantly lesser crowds at night (at least on a weekday when we visited), there were plenty of seats available as you savor the flavors of Korea. With the Kpop music- from Super Junior's Sorry Sorry to theme songs from Descendants of the Sun- playing in the background, have a rocking good time while dining.

What we had:

Running Man Specials- Marinated Chicken/ Squid with Cheese
$17.50 ( after discount) with cheese, additional $4
The ‘face’ of the restaurant, as we personally declared, will have to be a series of Marinated BBQs aka dakgalbi, with the alluring-melty rim of grated mozzarella cheese round the hotplate.  As we learnt, you may choose from a half-half combi between chicken/squid/octopus/pork!

All dakgalbi comes complimented with assorted vegetables, ricecakes and you can choose one item under the 'Additonal' list. In our case we choose the springy ramyeon!!
Anyone?
There was a discount when we visited near end last month, but to add on cheese, the price on the menu is not inclusive and requires an additional $4.
There is also a requirement of min 2 pax order for dalkgalbi but the pricing shown on the menu is for 1 pax.
It’s quite confusing no? What’s more just the dakgalbi comes without side dishes. Weird? Anyway just approach the staff to know more about the pricing.

Visual and Sensory experience
To note: I know it’s not easy, with the tons of snapping to be done before eating, but have it fast! Why? Molten cheese hardens pretty quickly as unfortunately, the fire can’t be kept on for too long ( else the meat will turned overcooked) and well you know if the cheese hardens, you take the fun out from dipping and pulling up north. Thumbs up!
Just eat it fast ( or, rather, snap your photos fast).

It was really fun and a refreshing way to have your favourite Korean BBQ meat- at least we did, digging into the medium-spicy (choose from a range of Less, Medium and Korean-Style spiciness level) chicken-squid combo and catching up on conversations.

Half  Ginseng Chicken Soup Set
 $12.50
The set we ordered is a Lunch/Dinner Time Special which came with a bowl of rice and unlimited refill of side dishes. With the ginseng added as a perk-me-up, the soup makes for a good nourishment and we had this shared among the 3 of us together with the dakgalbi-  just nice portions for sharing.

Other Lunch/Dinner deals on the menu.

Kom Bei
Ice yuzu and sweet punch $3.50 each

Anhyeong!

If you work in the CBD area or happen to drop by, just head on down~ Not bad for a cooling night to chill. Affordable pricing and conveniently located at level 2 of One Raffles Place just above Raffles Place MRT station. There are many more Korean delish selections in Running Man BBQ Restaurant, share with me what are your favourites there?

Till next time!
GST and service charges applies.
