[Food Reviews] Old-School Bakeries- LE Cafe Confectionery & Pastry Singapore ( Bugis, Dhoby Ghuat)

by - Monday, May 25, 2015

Here to introduce a localized, home-gown bakery of Singapore and their famous Bean Curd Tarts.
No ordinary egg tarts created from egg yolks/whites, these bean curd tarts are- as the name goes- cooled purely using bean curd ( soy) .  Having heard raves about their tarts, it was finally time to order some.
These beancurd tarts are so popular that you have to call in advance to reserve, lest they got sold out and you make a wasted trip.
For more centralized location, head on to their store at Middle Road. Walk Straight down from Pomo Mall, till you reach the cross junction. Spot the David Eilas Building in yellow and head to where Le Cafe is on level 1.
A bakery with over 50 years in history, LE Cafe Confectionery has retained its old-school, traditional bakery shop-front and sells a range of old school confectionery items.

Here's just part of the menu which spans from pineapple tarts, Swiss Rolls, cream cakes, rock cookies etc.

Sold in boxes of 8 pcs each for $9. No ala-carte available.
I had them in original flavors and did not purchase their mixed versions for fear it might be too sweet. I was not disappointed with their originals.
Though not hala-certified, there's no pork and lard in these yummy, jelly tarts. These tarts were indeed addictive and the smooth bean curd goes on light and soft akin to tucking into Tau Huay (beancurd). The pastry holding the bean curd was happy
1 piece goes on a long way to a happy stomach.

Definitely recommending these bean curd tarts as perfect afternoon snacks. They make presentable gifts as well for your loved ones.
Head on down!
