Organic Farm. Modern Days.
Always wonder how organic farms operate?
Quan Fa Organic Farm provides a good platform for a farm tour experience.
Belonging to the largest and one of the three organic produce distributors in Singapore, Quan Fa's produce are mainly distributed to restaurantsvegetarian eateries or organic supermarkets which you might already be familiarized with.

Sustainability
Come 2019, due to government's call in claiming back land for future developments, Quan Fa Organic Farm will bid farewell as it ceases it's operations completely. Over 2 decades of hard work.
But fret not, the owners are not leaving the organic scene completely and will be looking at other ways to present organic produce to consumers.
So do continue to follow them on FB ( link at the end of the post) for the latest announcement nearer the time.

So before we say goodbye to yet another piece of nature in Singapore history, why not make a trip down for some organic farming know-how? If you are keen, details of the farm tours can be found  right at the end of this post.

No Chemical Fertilizers. No Pesticides.
A family-run business, Mr Liao Chuan Huat, his wife, Madam Eng Yock Kee and their son, Jun Jie personally see to the daily operations of Quan Fa organic farm.
It's no easy feat, working under the weather elements, tuning the soil, sowing seeds, harvesting, watering etc. But without their dedication,  we couldn't possibly reap the harvest. We were privileged to be able to witness modern-day farming with an on site tour.
It was definitely a rare chance for us city dwellers and definitely recommendable for kids to have a look out in the nature.

Sunflower Seeds Sprouts are especially higher in nutrients and easier to digest for our body. That's why brands like Sunshine had breads made from sprouted seeds.

Lettuce in bloom beautifully

Over 40 varieties of veggies bloom in this organic farm.
Spinach, Kailan, Caixin and Radishes are just some to name.

These sticky tapes are used to catch pests and insects.
Just look at all these dead ones.

The more holes the better, that means it's free of pesticides.

We were told white radishes attract pest easily and demand for their leaves are high due to its high nutrients.

Fun Facts
As part of Nespresso's recycling efforts, they have sent the grounds from coffees to Quan Fa Organic Farm for reuse, which in turn generates into Quan Fa's own generated version of natural fertilizers and compost for the crops.
Natural fertilizers are the supplements for the plantation and plays and extremely important role in producing quality healthy harvests. Compost on the other end, feeds the soil.

These mountains of decomposed waste can reach a high temperature of up to 80 degrees celsius. We touched and it really was warm. They are left to further decompose till ready for use as compost.Their unique system contains and eliminates the odors from decays.
