[Yilan, Taiwan Travel 5 ] Cafe Hopping at 合盛太平 Cafe story

by - Friday, February 27, 2015

In case you are wondering, what's so special about this cafe? Neither did we know till we chanced upon a visitor centre and was told about it by the volunteer guide, Mr Hou. Since we had no idea what to eat in Yilan at night, we decided to head down to try.
This nostalgic cafe has risen up to its popularity in late 2014 after Takeshi Kaneshiro better known as 金城 武 in the Chinese film industry, came here filming a 4G commercial. Since then streams of locals and tourists have been flocking to this little known cafe. The filming also took place at
Yilan Cultural Center Wen Hua Guang and has been bursting with visitors since.

Ambiance and decoration wise, the cafe was really filled with the air of the 60s. From movie posters, to the tungsten light bulbs, the 'rusty' furniture and window frames, the location breathes days from yester years.

There are 2 levels to this cafe.

Doesn't this just scream to you? How nostalgic.

There's a huge courtyard outside 2nd level where apparently the filming took place for the commercial, but it was not lighted up at night and pity I could not see how it looks like. But if you find online, you can see lovely pictures of the outdoor courtyard. No wonder there's less crowd at night.  :D

Let's talk about food.
Cherry Valley Duck Salad $200 NTD
Refreshing crisp lettuce, spinach with red wine vinegar. With Sour cream sauce. Tastes as what salads should. Light tuck in.

Chicken New Orleans with BLT Sandwich $150 NTD
Comes served with a yogurt-mayo kind of blueberry dip.
Pretty simple but flavorful.
Wrapped with chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, balsamic vinegar.

Food wise quite ordinary, but deco similar to that of the hospital 100% Thumbs up!

And here's the commercial you have been waiting for. Go ahead and swoon.

Directions: It's a whole lot of walking. Think we took 25 mins to walk from Yilan Station to the cafe. The distance from the map looks short but it's actually otherwise.

However it's still "walkable" if you are not in a hurry and there really is no need to take a cab. Google map states 11 mins but we took longer and did not even carry any shopping bags along. Still, enjoy your dining experience at Cafe Story!
