[Eats in Singapore] Little Hiro Japanese-Hawaiian BBQ and grill ( Bukit Timah)

by - Thursday, December 18, 2014

Very privileged to get selected by 8 Days Eat to attend a food tasting session at Little Hiro and to join in the happy occasion
Little Hiro is a Hawaiian-Japanese inspired BBQ & Grill dining place.
Formally known as 'Burger Shack', the burger joint underwent a revamp when owner Ian Kwok
attended a friend's wedding in Hawaii and fell in love with the Hawaiian cuisine prepared by the groom's dad,
Hiro.

He decided to stay on in Hawaii and learnt the secret trades from Hiro. Thereafter, this eatery was born
bearing the name of his master. On the other hand, Ian's dad also happens to be the owner of
Island Creamery, located just a few streets down.
You can now enjoy these yummy ice creams over at Little Hiro.

At a grill's place, anything goes with beer and to start things off, we were served with Japanese Craft Beers. $8/$10 each.
Hotachino Nest is an Ale brewed with spice and orange juice.
Tasted awesome and contains 5.5% alcohol.

Cute packaging?
Another version of the Japanese craft beer was the Suiyouei No Nero. This is the can version of Belgian White Beer.

Some starters while waiting for the mains include:
Hiro Fries $3.50.
Straight cut fries seasoned.

Fried Calamari $7.90

B's Homemade Onion Rings $6.20

One of the highlights on the menu was definitely the Ramen Burgers and my number 2 favourite.

We had our try on the BBQ Bacon Bleu Ramen Burger $11.90, comes served with fries.
Made with airflow Japanese ramen and sandwiched between bacon, Bbq sauce, bleu cheese and beef patty, this is a new taste for me and I love the ramen replacement with bread.
Ramen tops at Little Hiro are cooked in homemade shio stock and then grilled and shaped individually, adding on some slight crisp to it.

12-Hour BBQ Beef Brisket $11.90.
As the name suggests, the beef has been marianted overnight for 12 hours before grilled. Served with corn, these beef ribs were soft and tender.

Another favourite of mine!
Yes, it's just typical spam deep fried but I haven't had these for a long time since and reminded me of childhood.

They have since revived and revolved to be better known as... Spam Fries, but still so yummy.
Eat in moderation~
Spam Fries with Curry Mayo $4.50.

Here comes my number 1.
A new addition on the menu, seems like it's going to stay based on its popularity with diners.
Fried Chicken Karaage and Waffles $15.80.

A relatively simple looking dish but the match is perfect. Crispy fluffy waffles combined with crunch karaage chicken bites make it easy to devour in minutes. Awesome taste and is something I would want to eat again.
Share the joy~~

Last but not least, finished on a happy high note with ice creams from the Island Creamery~~
Tripple Berry, Reverso and Cookies and Cream $3.20 single or $5.20 double.

Reverso is dark choclate ♥

Here's a group photo with everyone at the 8 Days Eat tasting~

Thanks to Ian and 8 Days Eat for hosting this yummy affair for all of us.

Like them on Facebook.
I really do like the whole concept of Hawaii and all things laid-back at Little Hiro. The servings were great for sharing, use very fresh ingredients imported and are reasonable in price. There are even promotions for students catering to many nearby institutes~~ Will definitely want to go back for the food.

Oh the other hand, I read quite a number of bad customer services experienced by patrons posted on Fb and we personally experienced it too when we were the first ones to enter the eatery for the tasting. We had also feedback to Ian.
Personally, Ian is a great boss, super friendly and service orientated. The service staff hired might not be at her best. Hopefully the service level will be improved further in the future with new staff or training.
