[Food Review in Singapore ] SONS Bacaro- Lunchtime (China Square)

by - Friday, November 21, 2014

Having heard of so many raves about SONS Bacaro, esp on their lunch menu, we have to make a trip down to see just how good their mains were. Located along the busy street of China Sqaure Central, all lined with restaurants, bars and whatnot, it can be hard to miss them especially when their signage is only located in the depths on their door. From the main walkway along China Square, you can only recognize them by the huge white umbrellas outdoors.
But then again, lunch hour sees long queues at their door basically and you can try to spot them.
Choose the outdoor seats if you want to save on waiting.

With my darling busy ger yulei.

An Italian curated kitchen, SONS Bacaro serves authentic Italian cuisine for the masses at affordable prices during lunch hours. Serving waiters and waitresses were very prompt and funny even, guess they even remember frequent customers as I saw some friendly exchanges amongst them.

We had the very carbo-laden Bucatini Cabonara $8.
Bucatini a thick kind of spaghetti and for this dish was added on with pork bacon and homemade Guanciale- Italian cured pork cheek meat. fragrantly stirred with shallot and tossed this is a satisfying bowl of pasta, atoped with egg yolk, cheese for flavor enhancements. It's better to share if you want to try a variety of food and prevent carbo-coma after lunch hours.

Next was the very photogenic Pork Milanese $9.
Served with Rucola aka Salad Rocket leaves and sprinkled with Parmigiano aka Parmesan Cheese. We especially heart the pan-fried potatoes which were done till golden brown and slightly seasoned. The Pork fillet was mediocre at best. Sadly the meat was too rough and drying. I am not sure if that's the way Italian Pork fillet is, but it would be better if it's soft and tender, with the meat juice retained.

There's such a wide selection for the lunch menu, I hope to try out the others soon.
Overall I think this is SONS Bacaro is a good place for lunch especially if you want to bring your clients over, or have some colleagues or friends from overseas. Affordable and definitely impressive enough for a decent lunch discussions/meetup.
