Seoul- Petite France and the Garden of Morning Calm

by - Monday, June 10, 2013

We took the longer, older route along the Gyeongchun line subway to Gapyeong — the region where famous attractions such as Nami Island and Petite France are situated. The journey took us about 1.5 hours from central Seoul.

From Gapyeong station, as I mentioned previously HEREthere is a Shuttle Bus ( Gapyeong Attractions Circle Bus) that takes you to the various attractions and it's very convenient. Simply hop on and off. Of course, do take note of the timing schedules as well.

This is how the shuttle bus looks like...

The Route

Visit Korea has a detailed explanation of the Gapyeong City Tour Bus route in English on their site.

This is the official Gapyeong Tourism website (in Korean): http://www.gptour.go.kr/tour/citytour.jsp?menu=theme
( Unfortunately, on their English version on the website, I saw no information on this city tour bus.)
At the time of travel, I took Course A and subsequently Course B was added.

***
You can just tell the information counter at Cheongpyeong station/Gapyeong station that you wish to board the shuttle bus and they will guide you to the waiting area. The staff speaks English as well so no worries.
Below is CheoongPyeong Bus Terminal, one of the stops along Course A, while en route to Petite France.

I shall not bomb you guys with too many photos. Go visit these lovely places and see them for yourself~~

The Garden of Morning Calm

The garden was a bit of a disappointment because many of the flowers were not in bloom when I went over in April. Perhaps the weather was too cold and the coldness lasted longer than expected this year. But there were not many pretty blooms as was shown in their brochures.

This was the only plot with flowers in bloom :(

Petite France

Moving on to Petite France

My cute new-found friends

Free public performances and indoor puppet shows for visitors... very cute shows

Photo with the PRINCE~~~ ^^

We also headed to the Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the largest and most famous festival in Seoul. Unfortunately, it was hard to capture great photos at night with all the bright spotlights and crowds everywhere. We went on the 2nd last day of the festival closing and it was still crowded. Nevertheless, it was a really pretty lovely place to walk, along with all the different coloured lightings. Definitely worth visiting!!!

Location: National Assembly Station exit 1 or 2.

Spot the grand National Assembly Library in front of you. Follow the crowd and turn right upon exit. Walk straight for awhile and you will soon reach a traffic crossing. Cross the street to the opposite side and carry walking, towards the direction of Yeouido Hangang Park
You will see the entrance to the festival on your left in 10 mins or so.

** We asked many locals about the directions but were lost 2 times before finding the actual location. Do not walk towards the direction of the Yeouido Park, which we did- TWICE.

Lovely white blossoms~~~

*I should have returned again the next day morning again for more photoshoots but I was too put off by the cold and chilly freezing outdoors.

That's all I have for now..... will upload more on my trip soon!

NEW Updates: The itx-Cheongchun line is a relatively new line developed by Korail. If you are looking for fast commute and comfort, the commuter train may be a good idea. A trip from Cheongpyeong Station to Cheongnyangni Station cost 3,100 won, 1,200 won more than a subway trip along the same route. Toilets and vending machines are available on this train. You can purchase tickets on the spot or book online at www.korail.com.

Take this line if you are travelling out to Gyeonggi-do province from SEOUL!

  3. Hi! We're visiting the Garden of Morning Calm on April 10 or 11 this year. Are the flowers in bloom by then? I'm afraid it may be too early in spring. Any thoughts?
